Marjorie Bailey Named CCSD School Nurse of the Year
Charleston, SC — Charleston County School District (CCSD) is proud to announce Marjorie Bailey as its 2016-2017 School Nurse of the Year. Bailey is the school nurse at Moultrie Middle and previously served as a school nurse at Sullivan’s Island Elementary since joining the District in August 2007.
Throughout her career as a school nurse, Nurse Bailey has served in a variety of roles. Not only has she has been actively involved in her school’s wellness committee and CORE Team, she has also served as the DHEC Influenza Nurse Liaison for her district, has coordinated consents, rosters, and scheduling at each school, and has provided education for other nurses and parents. Nurse Bailey is also utilized as a nurse mentor for the District’s new nurse hires, and has extensive knowledge of diabetes, asthma, seizure, and severe allergies.
Nurse Bailey is very proactive in ensuring that her school’s students and staff are healthy and ready to learn. She has organized staff preventative screenings in addition to regular student screenings for vision and hearing, and also hosted a blood drive last spring at the school.
“Marjorie is a dynamic nurse that brings a patient-centered approach to healthcare in the school setting,” said Ellen Nitz, CCSD District 1 and 2 Nurse Liaison.“She is instrumental in making sure that the students, parents, and staff are all included to ensure optimal care and results.”
Nurse Bailey is a CPR Instructor with the American Heart Association and trains first responders, as well as her professional peers. Her compassion and kindness along with her keen sense of humor make her a favorite among her students, staff, and peers as she tries to consistently build on the positives to promote trust and increase self-esteem in the middle school population she serves.
Nurse Bailey will be representing CCSD in the running for South Carolina School Nurse of the Year, which will be awarded in January 2017.
