CCSD Celebrates Its 2009 Graduates!
Charleston County Schools District's (CCSD) fifteen high schools and programs held graduation ceremonies from June 4-8, 2009. This year, approximately 2,300 graduates celebrated with family and friends as they reflected on their education and received their diplomas.
For the fifth consecutive year, the number of students earning Board Scholar Certificates increased from the previous year. This year, 187 CCSD students earned this honor, compared to 176 students in 2008 and 172 in 2007. In order to receive a Board Scholar Certificate, a student must achieve a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) of 4.25 or better with no rounding at the end of their first seven semesters.
The total amount of money that the Class of 2009 received in scholarship awards will be announced in late June. Last school year, seniors earned a record $42 million in scholarship awards, which was over $6 million more than what was earned in the previous year.
