10/27/08 Board of Trustees Meeting
October 27th marked the last countywide Board of Trustees meeting for outgoing Members Hillery Douglas, Brian Moody, and Nancy Cook. Other agenda items included the appointment of two CCSD staff members, the completion of the Superintendent's performance evaluation, and the renaming of Murray Hill Academy.
Superintendent Dr. Nancy McGinley thanked the three outgoing Members for their commitment to the students of Charleston County and for their combined 36 years of service to the Board. Each reflected on the experience and shared thoughts about the current status of the district.
The special recognition portion of the agenda included a presentation by the American Cancer Society regarding CCSD's involvement in the "Relay for Life" event. Last year, 14 CCSD Teams participated in the 2008 Mt. Pleasant and Charleston County Relay events raising over $253,000. Office Depot presented a check for over $26,000 to the district, and CCSD's Contract and Procurement Director Fred Feil recognized Office Depot for its valuable business partnership with the district. Dr. Krohne and Dr. Bush of the South Carolina School Boards Association recognized Nancy Cook for her service on the Association's Board of Directors.
The Board completed Dr. Nancy McGinley's first performance evaluation as CCSD Superintendent, on which they scored her as exceeding standards. The Board appointed Dr. Doug Gepford as Chief Academic Officer and John McCarron as Executive Director of Information Technology. The Board also approved a recommendation to change the name of Murray Hill Academy to Daniel J. Jenkins Academy.
