February is National Career and
Technology Education (CTE) Month!
Did you know that high school students involved in CTE are more engaged, perform better and graduate at higher rates? Each week in February, we will highlight something special about the people (and places) in our district working to prepare our students for college and careers.
We have CTE programs offered in every high school and grouped into 16 career clusters. Some examples of our CTE programs include Culinary Arts, Business, Health Science, Pre Engineering, and Information Technology. CTE prepares youth for a wide range of careers and further educational opportunities.
CCSD wants to "Celebrate CTE Heroes" by thanking our teachers for all their accomplishments, achievements and commitments in preparing our students to be global citizens of the 21st century.
In addition to thanking our teachers we would like to thank our community and business partners. For example, The City of Charleston, City of North Charleston, RiverDogs, Children's Center at Carolina Park, College of Charleston Athletics, and Charleston Southern University will be hosting students from schools throughout the district during the month of February.
Did you know?
- A ratio of one CTE class for every two academic classes minimizes the risk of students dropping out of high school.
- According to the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics, almost all high school students participate in CTE, and more than half take three or more credits.
