Charles Pinckney Elementary Named Blue Ribbon School
Today, CCSD's Charles Pinckney Elementary earned the prestigious title of “National Blue Ribbon School,” given annually by the U.S. Department of Education to the nation’s best schools. Only 300 schools nationwide—and five in South Carolina—earned Blue Ribbon status this year.
"I can’t think of school that is more deserving or more closely reflects the high standards of the National Blue Ribbon Award than Pinckney Elementary,” said Superintendent Dr. Nancy McGinley. “Congratulations to Pinckney’s faculty and students—and the entire school community—for showing us what effective teaching and leadership can accomplish.”
According to the U.S. Department of Education, National Blue Ribbon recipients are models of excellence that other schools can emulate. Winners are either academically superior or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement. Year after year, Pinckney Elementary has earned an “Excellent” absolute rating on its state report card. For the last three years, the school has earned “Excellent” absolute ratings and growth ratings.
The belief that all students can learn and excel has been critical to the school’s success. Pinckney’s mission is “to provide each student with an extensive range of educational opportunities in a nurturing environment.” School leaders understand the importance of having high-quality teachers, rigorous curricula and effective instruction. The school also keeps a good balance between academics and extracurricular activities, offering a wide range of enrichment opportunities for students.
