On Friday, August 30, during the school's dedication ceremony, Ashley River Creative Arts Principal Jayne Ellicott, was bestowed with the Order of the Palmetto. This prestigious accolade is the highest civilian honor in South Carolina, and it is signed and awarded by the governor.

Watch Representative Leon Stavrinakis surprise Ms. Ellicott with this honor.

Friday's dedication event allowed students, families, staff, and honored guests- including Mayor Joe Riley, Charleston County School District (CCSD) Superintendent Dr. Nancy McGinley, CCSD Board Chair Ruth Jordan, and Representative Stavrinakis- to celebrate the new state-of-the-art, two-story and 71,000 square foot facility, which was built as part of the 2005-2010 Capital Campaign.
