Vote to Help Burke's Confetti Soup Recipe Win National Honors!
A team of Burke High School's middle school students—in partnership with the MUSC Lean Team, Slow Food Charleston, and Cypress Executive Chef Craig Deihl—qualified as one of 15 semi-finalists in the nation for the Healthy Recipes for Kids Challenge, a contest sponsored by the the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Let's Move! campaign designed to end childhood obesity.
All across the country, students have formed teams in order to develop, document, and prepare a healthy recipe in one of three categories. Fifteen semi-finalist teams—including Burke—will have their recipes evaluated by a judging panel, and the top three teams will compete in a national cook-off to determine the grand prize winner! Semi-finalists' recipes have now been posted for online voting by the public to determine a Popular Choice Winner. Winning teams will be invited to prepare their nutrition-packed meals alongside White House chefs.
The Burke students' "Confetti Soup" is a delicious, healthy, and beautiful dish that is bound to please any palate! YOU can help the recipe win the national Popular Choice Award by visiting the Healthy Recipes for Kids Challenge website from now until May 15 and by voting for the confetti soup under the legume category.
